OS: Windows XP Sp2
Dongle used: Sitecom CN-502
Software version: 3.7.1

Install ActiveSync in the normal way, initially using the USB connection between the PocketPC and your PC. Make sure the two have synchronized once.

Make sure the appropriate Bluetooth drivers have been installed on the PC (see BtSitecomInstallation01.doc).

When using ActiveSync over Bluetooth it uses two com ports, one for incoming traffic and one for outgoing. Your Sitecom driver might not have allocated enough Com ports to support this, so let’s first make sure these Com ports have been allocated and are available for ActiveSync.

Open the Sitecom Advanced Configuration window (e.g. by right-clicking the BT icon in the task bar).

Click the Local services tab

Click Add Serial Service

If the Bluetooth Properties Windows come up right away, there are still Com ports allocated to Bluetooth that you can use. There might be more Com ports to choose from, select the one you prefer.

If first other Windows (System Properties, etc.) pop-up, a new virtual Com port is allocated to the BT driver. In this case there will be only one Com port to choose from.

In both cases, Mark Startup Automatically,

Remember both the Com port and the Service Name allocated to the new entry.

Click OK

Click the Client Applications tab

Click Add COM port

The same process takes place as with the Local services tab, click OK when finished (this time you don’t have to remember the Com port and service name allocated).

Click OK to leave the Bluetooth Configuration Window

Now start Microsoft ActiveSync (still on the PC)

Go to File / Connection Settings

Mark Allow serial cable or infrared connection to this COM port

and select the Com port you assigned under the Local Services tab.

Unmark Allow USB … and Allow network … if you will not use that.

Click OK

Make sure the PocketPC is switched on and Bluetooth on the PocketPC is turned on.

Open on the PC My Bluetooth Places

Click on Search for devices in range

The Pocket_PC icon should now appear

Right-click it and select Pair Device

Enter and remember the Bluetooth PIN Code

Click OK

On the PocketPC a prompt should appear

Enter the same code as Passkey on the PocketPC and click OK

On the PC a red mark should now appear with the Pocket_PC icon.

Now turn to the PocketPC

Start the Bluetooth Manager

Click New / Connect

Select ActiveSync via Bluetooth

Tap Next 3 times

Tap <No device selected>

The name of your PC should now appear

Tap it

If multiple serial ports are shown, select the name assigned as Service Name under Local Services in the Bluetooth Configuration Window on the PC.

Tap Next

Mark Use a secure, encrypted connection if you prefer that

Tap Finish

On the PC a balloon should pop up.

Click on it

Mark Always allow this device to access this service

Click OK

On the PocketPC in the Bluetooth screen an icon labeled ActiveSync with <PC> should appear with two green arrows, to indicate it is connected. If ActiveSync has been configured to start synchronization after a connection has been established, the synchronization process should now start.

To start a synchronization later on

Make sure the PC is switched on and ActiveSync is running in the background.

On the PocketPC open Bluetooth Manager.

Double-tap the ActiveSync with <PC> icon.
